At Beykoz University, students who are placed in programs whose medium of instruction is English are required to be exempted from the English Preparatory Program or successfully complete the English Preparatory Program in order to start their department courses.
Every student who is required to or would like to study the English preparatory program must attend the REMOTE Placement Exam (Beykoz PLET), which will be held at the beginning of the academic year.
The following steps are applied:
- First, students are given the Beykoz Placement Test (PLET), and then, depending on their Beykoz PLET results
- Students take The English Proficiency Exam (Beykoz Proficiency Test (Beykoz PROF).
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students who score below 30 in the Placement Exam are not allowed to take the English Proficiency Exam (Beykoz Prof). They are placed in groups according to their levels and start the English Preparatory program in their related level groups.

Beykoz PLET-Exam consists of a total of 60 (sixty) multiple choice questions geared towards assessment of students'
- vocabulary
- grammar
- reading skills,
and of a separate writing section where students will be required to write a paragraph on one of the topics given.
The test will take approximately 2 (two) hours and there will be no break during the exam.
For every 4 (four) incorrect answers one (1) correct answer will be removed from the total points of the exam; therefore, students who are to take this exam are advised not to answer any questions without being sure.
Beykoz-PLET exam results will be announced on the ‘Announcements’ tab on the School of Foreign Languages web page.
Students who score 30 (thirty) or above out of 60 (sixty) multiple choice questions in the Beykoz-PLET Exam are deemed successful, and they are entitled to take the English Proficiency (Beykoz-PROF) Exam.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY EXAM (BEYKOZ-PROF)

English Proficiency Exam (Beykoz-PROF) is for those students who have scored 30 out of 60 multiple choice questions in the placement test (Beykoz-PLET).
- English Proficiency Test (Beykoz-PROF) is held in two sessions: "written" and "spoken".
- Written session takes approximately 3 hours.
-After the written session, “speaking exam” is given.
- Students take “speaking session” of the exam according to the appointment time given by the school.
- Written session includes a section of 60 (sixty) multiple choice questions (at upper-intermediate level) geared towards assessment of students' vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening skills and a section to assess their writing skills.
- One correct answer WILL NOT BE REMOVED from the total score for every 4 incorrect answers.
- Beykoz-PLET exam results will be announced on the ‘Announcements’ tab on the School of Foreign Languages web page.
