Khaled Hosseini (Halit Hüseyni) was originally from Tajikistan and was born in Afghanistan on March 4, 1965. His father served as a diplomat in the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while his mother worked as a Persian and History teacher in Kabul. He was in the Department of Biology at Santa Clara University. After graduating from college, he studied at the University of Medicine in California. After a long training period, he started working as a surgeon in 1993. Khaled Hosseini's first novel, The Kite Hunter, made a big splash. His book which was in the New York Times' best sellers' list, was published in seventy countriesand presented to readers. The author, who left his job as a doctor after the book The Kite Hunter, which gained him great fame, devoted himself to writing. This book contains the breezes of their emigration to America in their homeland. Khaled Hosseini's Book of The Kite Hunter has caught the attention of Hollywood, a successful novel that has long remained on the bestseller lists around the world. It was adapted into a film by director Marc Forsters and nominated for an Oscar. After his first book, And the Mountains Echoed, he published the books Of a Thousand Magnificent Suns. The book 1,000 Glorious Suns remained on the New York Times bestseller list for fifteen weeks. The Books of The Kite Hunter and The Thousand Magnificent Suns have sold more than 10 million copies in the United States and 38 million worldwide. Hosseini's book Sea Prayer, inspired by the story of Aylan Kurdi, a three-year-old Syrian refugee who drowned in the Mediterranean in September 2015 while trying to reach safety in Europe and whose lifeless body washed ashore, gives a striking glimpse into the refugee problem. Khales Hosseini has been selected as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency in 2006. He founded the Khaled Hosseini foundation, a nonprofit that provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
