‘You should prefer a university supporting you in any way’

Beykoz University’s President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman underlined that young people must be very careful when making choices at the turning point of their lives and added “A university must have an organization that will provide an environment of study and research as well as offering professional advantages supporting your life financially and spiritually and offering means to improve your personal traits and competencies. Choose wisely!”

Students took an Undergraduate Placement Exam (LYS) after a long academic year and preparation process and the results will be announced on July 11. The university preference process shall be between the dates of July 18 and July 26, 2017 this year. 1 million 846 thousand 845 candidates who scored over 150 points on the Transition to Higher Education Examination (YGS) will choose fields of associate degree and bachelor’s degree and placed on 1 million 77 thousand 443 vacancies at the universities. The candidates will not only choose a university but also guide their lives in a new direction. Thus, their decision and preferring the right university are crucial.  

Beykoz University’s President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman underlined that young people must be very careful when making a choice at the turning point of their lives and added “Score and ranking are important but when preferring a university, young people must choose a profession that is fit for them and that will make them happy. When choosing a department of study, they should consider experience and success of the universities and related department, relations with the business world, opinions of the graduates and employment opportunities, quality assurance, opportunities available in the international platform, internship, language education and such other aspects in detail.”

“Choose whatever will make you happy in the professional life”

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman explained that university life should have an organization that will provide an environment of study and research as well as offering professional advantages supporting your life financially and spiritually and offering means to improve your personal traits and competencies and added “University is the last exit before the bridge that will prepare students to a life for fulfilling all their dreams. First of all, I would like to remind the candidates that their lives belong to them. I suggest them to choose a field that will make them happy in professional life after graduation not a field chosen, suggested or preferred by someone else.”

“Competencies are crucial for us”

“Competencies at Beykoz University are crucial for us. We have determined 12 fields of competency and we are going to measure our students against these competencies in the first year to support competencies to be improved and we are going to award “Certificate of Competency” at the graduation. This certificate will give our graduates competencies needed in each aspect of life such as lifelong learning, global approach development, sensitivity to community problems, leadership, creativity, entrepreneurism, innovation, written and verbal communication, social responsibility awareness, which define the competencies of the twenty first century, and our students will take their places in life”  said Mehmet Durman.

Mission and vision of a university is important

Mehmet Durman highlighted that a university must be capable of supporting social, cultural and personal development of students and added “A university environment capable of improving their personal traits and competencies is important. If possible, candidates should visit universities, meet the lecturers, administrators and students. I believe that what our candidates look for is in the mission, vision and basic values of universities. They should also consider those. Then, they should have confidence in their instincts, the beauty in their dreams will definitely bring the most beautiful things to them”.

‘Preference Days at Beykoz University’

Beykoz University will organize “Preference Days” for candidates and their families between the dates of July 11 and 26 July. The candidates will visit Kavacık Campus of the university and talk to preference consultants, academic and administrative personnel about the university preferences, departments and opportunities offered by the university.
