From the Head of the Digital Game Design Department

Young people, their families, beautiful people who think of being the game designer of the future, visiting this page only because of their curiosity, or who have come across this page by chance; I would like to briefly inform you about digital game design and our view of the training of this field.

From the word-finding-producing games that keep us entertained on our mobile phones, to the large machines, commonly known as atari, that work by reading credit cards in shopping malls, to the contests that thousands of people simultaneously attempt to beat each other or cooperate with each other, to the home type consoles designed with human ergonomics and comfort in mind with detail and the internet cafes where we save from our pocket money, go after school and sometimes neglect our lessons for the sake of it, digital games are taking up more and more space in our lives. Especially the widespread use of smart phones made digital games accessible at anytime and anywhere, regardless of time and space limitations.

It seems that the increase in digital games in our lives will continue in the following centuries. In the last few years, universities have started bachelor education like us in many countries of the world in order to meet this need in life and to train qualified manpower who can do the 21st century profession adequately.

Beykoz University Digital Game Design Department regards digital game design as an interdisciplinary field under the umbrella of art and design. We want people who can write code and have design knowledge and culture. We want our students to love reading, research and discussion. We want them to be aware of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Pablo Picasso, Sumerian civilization, at the same time, to know the current game engines, game mechanics, two- and three-dimensional animation, to have basic knowledge of mathematics and physics, and to try to sculpt. We think that a good game designer should be able to touch all areas of life. Because we know that the game is life itself and that life covers all of this.

We want to help our students who are ready to grasp the digital game design as a field of art and design, will open their eyes, minds and hearts to the integrity of life, and we want to learn with them. We want our students to have fun and learn, to learn this beautiful profession with fun.
